A local horsewoman who has been riding since she was four-years-old has taken the reins of innovation and has opened the area’s first consignment shop dedicated to the equine set in Monroe.

"Before I opened people used to drive all the way to New York," said new proprietor, Sue Daven at her Grand Opening May 5.  "There was no place to buy high class new or used tack for horse, rider and home without spending thousands of dollars."

Her shop "The Tack Trunk" is conveniently located at the intersection of Main Street and Route 59 in the pink Dr. Mike Ice Cream building.  She expects to draw customers into Monroe from Newtown, where she keeps her own horse, Rio, and throughout Fairfield County.

"We have more people riding horses in Connecticut, than any other state," she said, "including Kentucky and Tennessee.

Unique equine jewelry can be found at The Tack Trunk for a fraction of its original price.

Everything horsey from racks of bridles to whimsical rocking ponies will be sold on consignment.
